Insulating oil pipelines significantly decreases maintenance costs, because it minimizes the time when the pipelines does not operate when low temperatures affect oil (especially high paraffinization). Thanks to its high mechanical strength, Penoplex does not require additional exterior protection (shielding). Specifications The PENOPLEX® insulating material has all the necessary certificates and licenses and is recommended for use by the Gostekhnadzor of Russia and Gosstroy of Russia RU.SL42.N00024. VNIIST and VNIIGaz Ltd. devised the TU 5767-001-01297858-02 specification for thermal insulation of pipelines with a diameter of 57 to 1420 mm. The specification was approved by Gazprom. Insulating pipes allows for replacing overpass and shallow laying of pipelines with trenching, which minimizes the heat shock of the pipeline on the permafrost soils of the Far North. This prevents the soil from heating and possibly deforming the pipes. In addition, this decreases the volume of earth digging work necessary for creating a sand bed, shortens construction time, and increases the services life of a pipeline.
