About PENOPLEX / Insulation of floors / Heated floors Styrofoam is known for its excellent insulating properties, and it is often sued for insulating heated floors. The purpose of insulating heated floors is to decrease the irradiation of thermal energy in unwanted directions. Preventing heat from spreading out in all directions allows for significant energy savings. (Otherwise, you will end up heating not just your floor, but also the ceiling of your neighbor downstairs or a basement.)
Laying PENOPLEX® boards Install PENOPLEX® boards on top of the floor slates. Heated floors are installed over PENOPLEX® according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If you are installing a hydroinsulating membrane under PENOPLEX® boards, the flexible pipes of your heated floor can be fastened directly to PENOPLEX®. To ensure that the cement compound does not leak through the gaps between insulating boards, cover them (for example with Scotch tape) before poring cement covering. If you are placing a hydroinsulating or vapor insulating membrane on top of PENOPLEX® boards, use an additional layer for attaching flexible heating pipes, to ensure a continuous layer of insulation. Pay a special attention to covering temperature seams. In addition, take additional measures to prevent heat conductive bridges in the gaps between the boards.
